Panthers Protecting Panthers Checklist

P3 App check-in before arriving to campus

Face coverings are strongly advised

Wash hands often

P3 app

The P3 app consists of a series of screening questions that must be answered by all faculty, staff and students who come to our campuses or academic locations. In order for the app to be effective, we all have to do our part and answer the screening questions with honesty and integrity. The results of this daily check-in will initiate testing protocol established by our workgroup on Guidelines for Screening, Testing, Tracing and Disinfection.

Online training

FIU has developed an online training program, called Panthers Protecting Panthers, that consists of training modules to provide guidance on maintaining a safe workplace. The course is required to be completed by all faculty, staff and students since maintaining a healthy environment is everyone’s responsibility.

Face coverings

As part of the Panthers Protecting Panthers initiative, it is recommended that everyone who comes to one of FIU’s campuses or academic locations wear a mask indoors. If you choose to wear a mask indoors, correct and consistent mask use is important. When choosing a mask, look at how well if fits, how well it filters the air and how many layers it has.

We’re giving all FIU students one free face covering. You can get yours via special vending machines at MMC, BBC and the Engineering Center.

Find a vending machine close to you (Please note -- You’ll need your FIU One Card to get your free face covering from the vending machine).

  • Make sure your mask fits snugly against your face. Gaps can let air with respiratory droplets leak in and out around the edges of your mask.
  • Pick a mask with layers to keep your respiratory droplets in and others’ out. A mask with layers will stop more respiratory droplets getting inside your mask or escaping from your mask if you’re sick.
  • Choose a mask with a nose wire. Nose wires prevent air from leaking out of the top of your mask. Bend the nose wire over your nose to fit close to your face.
  • Use a mask fitter or brace. This will prevent air from leaking around the edges of the mask.
  • Add layers of material. There are two ways to layer – use a cloth mask with multiple layers of fabric or wear one disposable mask underneath a cloth mask. (Note: The second mask should push the edges of the inner mask against your face for a more snug fit.)
  • Make sure you can see and breathe easily.

  • Combine two disposable masks. Disposable masks are not designed to fit tightly, and wearing more than one will not improve fit.
  • Combine a KN95 mask with any other mask.
